Is BirdHere free?
Yes. BirdHere is free to download, and unlimited twelve-second identifications, one home region, the worldwide guide and a private field log for 50 confirmed sightings stay free. The free version also includes three Live Listen samples. World Pass is an optional in-app purchase that adds continuous Live Listen, imports, the full list of alternatives, an unlimited journal and every region. There is no advertising.
Does BirdHere work without internet?
Yes. The built-in Central Europe model works offline from the first launch, and any regional pack you install stays available offline. Internet is needed only when you download a model, request a community bird photo or make a purchase.
Is there a Shazam for birds?
That is the idea. Tap once, let BirdHere listen for twelve seconds, and it suggests which bird is singing. Unlike a music match, a bird identification is a suggestion: BirdHere shows its evidence and tells you when it cannot say.
How is BirdHere different from Merlin or BirdNET?
Choose BirdHere for a private listen, check and journal routine: hear a bird, review its audio score, recording quality and local context, then save your own conclusion. Start free with unlimited twelve-second listens, one home region and 50 confirmed sightings. The app supports 13 languages; World Pass adds all 40 regional packs and audio and video imports. Merlin also offers photo identification, while BirdNET offers optional research contributions.
Does it recognize every bird perfectly?
No bird recognizer does. Coverage depends on the installed model, species, season, recording distance and background noise. BirdHere shows its evidence, abstains on weak audio, and asks you to treat every result as a suggestion.
Why does it use location?
Only to make unlikely birds less prominent. Location is optional, rounded before use and processed by a local occurrence model. You can turn it off or choose a region manually.
What happens when a person is heard?
BirdHere can label human voice as part of the soundscape instead of pretending it is a bird. It is a small, honest field note. The audio still stays on your device.
Where do the bird photos come from?
If enabled, BirdHere can automatically fetch an exact-species community photo from iNaturalist. It accepts reusable CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA media and shows the creator, license and source.
Which iPhones and languages are supported?
BirdHere supports iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. The Apple Watch companion records audio for identification on your iPhone; World Pass is required after ten free Watch captures. The app is available in English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian Bokmål, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and Ukrainian.
