A field guide that listens

Less guessing.
More noticing.

BirdHere is designed for the five seconds when a song catches your attention and the bird itself stays hidden.

01

Listen for five seconds

Record a short sound or let Live Listen keep watch while you walk. Wind, traffic, quiet audio and human speech are treated as context—not forced into a bird name.

02

Add place and season

If you choose, BirdHere uses a rounded location and the current week to down-rank birds that are unlikely to be nearby. GPS is never required.

03

Meet the likely singers

See ranked alternatives, scientific names, local context and transparent uncertainty. Save a sighting to your private field journal when it feels right.

A few honest answers

Before you
take it outside.

Does BirdHere work without internet?

Yes. The included home model works offline, and any regional pack you install remains available offline. Internet is needed only when you deliberately download another model or request a community bird photo.

Does it recognize every bird perfectly?

No bird recognizer does. Coverage depends on the installed model, species, season, recording distance and background noise. BirdHere shows alternatives and context, abstains on weak audio, and asks you to treat every result as a suggestion.

Why does it use location?

Only to make unlikely birds less prominent. Location is optional, rounded before use and processed by a local occurrence model. You can turn it off or choose a region manually.

What happens when a person is heard?

BirdHere can label human voice as part of the soundscape instead of pretending it is a bird. It is a small, honest field note—and the audio still stays on your device.

Where do the bird photos come from?

Only when you tap to request one, BirdHere can fetch an exact-species community photo from iNaturalist. It accepts reusable CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA media and shows the creator, license and source.
