Listen for five seconds
Record a short sound or let Live Listen keep watch while you walk. Wind, traffic, quiet audio and human speech are treated as context—not forced into a bird name.
Private bird sound ID
BirdHere turns a few seconds of birdsong into a thoughtful answer—on your iPhone, with no account and no audio upload.
Likely nearby
A field guide that listens
BirdHere is designed for the five seconds when a song catches your attention and the bird itself stays hidden.
Record a short sound or let Live Listen keep watch while you walk. Wind, traffic, quiet audio and human speech are treated as context—not forced into a bird name.
If you choose, BirdHere uses a rounded location and the current week to down-rank birds that are unlikely to be nearby. GPS is never required.
See ranked alternatives, scientific names, local context and transparent uncertainty. Save a sighting to your private field journal when it feels right.

Privacy belongs in the architecture
Recognition runs locally. Recordings, approximate coordinates, predictions and journal entries stay on your device unless you deliberately export something.
Read the plain-language privacy policyOpen the app and listen. There is nothing to create, verify or remember.
The bird model runs on your iPhone. Your recording is not sent to us or a model provider.
No ads, third-party analytics or sale of audio and location data.
Optional coordinates are rounded immediately and are not kept as a location history.
Local wherever you land
Start with one home region. Add only the places you travel to instead of carrying nearly two gigabytes of duplicate models.
*The worldwide guide includes 11,149 species. The full acoustic catalogue intersects with 10,248 bird species; recognition coverage varies by regional pack, recording quality and available training data. BirdHere can be uncertain or wrong.
Useful before you pay
No weekly trap and no advertising. The essentials stay useful; one optional purchase unlocks the deeper field kit.

Bird names belong to places
Interface, permissions, purchase copy and standardized bird names are designed to follow your chosen language—without silently inventing machine-translated species names.
A few honest answers
Yes. The included home model works offline, and any regional pack you install remains available offline. Internet is needed only when you deliberately download another model or request a community bird photo.
No bird recognizer does. Coverage depends on the installed model, species, season, recording distance and background noise. BirdHere shows alternatives and context, abstains on weak audio, and asks you to treat every result as a suggestion.
Only to make unlikely birds less prominent. Location is optional, rounded before use and processed by a local occurrence model. You can turn it off or choose a region manually.
BirdHere can label human voice as part of the soundscape instead of pretending it is a bird. It is a small, honest field note—and the audio still stays on your device.
Only when you tap to request one, BirdHere can fetch an exact-species community photo from iNaturalist. It accepts reusable CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA media and shows the creator, license and source.
